False Readings

1.
Distant Sirens I stand alone in silence contradicting myself I stand against the alliance I don’t know of anyone else But I feel a disturbance in the atmosphere Another strange occurrence I refuse to adhere Step into the doorway of the unknown Look into the mirror, you’re not alone Misplaced distorted figures Appearing in my dreams I sense I’m being watched It’s not what it seems The alerts never seem to stop Keeping me awake I’m afaid to close my eyes The room begins to shake Sirens sound into the streets Warning us to stay inside They will search every room of your home Questioning your alibi Detaining those on their radar Who fit the description of Anyone in opposition No one is above The flashing of searchlights On faces they suspect Verifying identities Running a profile check You look far too suspicious The evidence they collect There are no witnesses Its your word they’ll reject The sun will light another day Don’t worry just hide away The fear will soon be gone We can return and carry on When will the madness end Returning to the times transcend Tell me it’s all a bad dream Wake me up from the scream Sirens sound into the streets Warning us to stay inside They will search every room of your home Questioning your alibi Detaining those on their radar Who fit the description of Anyone in opposition No one is above
2.
Volatility Swaying The stares ignite suspicion Tolerance has gone wrong No one knows just for how long Even the though they’ve known it all along Some are quick to criticize Without time to realize It would be very unwise Leading to their demise With all lost intentions Something that they’ll never find With no intervention The story is now intertwined Don’t think out of the box You’ll never find the answer sought While many others are convinced What they say makes no sense What really matters is what we take from this They always seem to dismiss Until they raise their fists With all lost intentions Something that they’ll never find With no intervention The story is now intertwined Volatility swaying Everyone is telling lies To try to undermine The game has been jeopardized Volatility swaying Everyone who denies To try to undermine The game has been jeopardized The closing doors remain The past memories sustain Theres no one left to blame Only the falling rain When I reach outside I feel the chilling air It brings me to my senses Without any suspense Volatility swaying Everyone is telling lies To try to undermine The game has been jeopardized Volatility swaying Everyone who denies To try to undermine The game has been jeopardized Volatility swaying
3.
Remain in Darkness If I knew then what I know now I would have known that it wasn’t allowed With all restrictions now in place You can’t do that Without falling from grace Tell me that it’s just a bad dream When I awake it’s not what it seems Tell me it’s an illusion I’m seeing things that are not really there All the lights in the city went out We remain in darkness Refrain from going out All the nights without a sound We remain in silence No sign of life to be found We must wait until the first sunlight There is nowhere no end in sight When can we return to the life We once knew Haven’t we paid the price? Tell me it’s just a bad dream When I awake it’s not what it seems Tell me it’s an illusion I’m seeing things that are not really there All the lights in the city went out We remain in darkness Refrain from going out All the nights without a sound We remain in silence No sign of life to be found There is and always will be No answers to the questions sought Are we really that naïve To believe everything will work out All the lights in the city went out We remain in darkness Refrain from going out All the nights without a sound We remain in silence No sign of life to be found
4.
Until I Reach the End There is something at the end of the rainbow waiting to be found Your troubles seem to vanish Into an array of colors onto the ground Until I reach the end of the rainbow There’s no way I’ll ever know Just what the future holds Until I reach the end of the rainbow I’ll stand in it’s afterglow of eternity’s window If you believe with all of your heart You can bring about a change in everything When you place a stone into your hand It will turn into gold right where you stand Until I reach the end of the rainbow There’s no way I’ll ever know Just what the future holds Until I reach the end of the rainbow Where I’ll stand in its afterglow of eternity’s window Spanning out across the sky It can suddenly appear and disappear No one knows the reason why Some believe it dispels our fears What lies in the eyes of the beholder For those who stand in its light Will be granted forever eternal life There are no dreams left behind You will soon discover everything turns out fine Just remember the astonishment That lies before your eyes when you look up to the sky Until I reach the end of the rainbow There’s no way I’ll ever know Just what the future holds Until I reach the end of the rainbow Where I’ll stand in its afterglow of eternity ‘s window
5.
Pure as the Driven Snow Was I not guided by the stars That led me to your door Was I not guided by the wind That constantly pulled me forward The cold wind forced me to take shelter Only for awhile where I could recover Was I not told to follow my heart My feelings would be my guide Was I not led to believe Under overcast skies Pure as the driven snow falling from the sky The loneliness and secrets kept All the days from passing by The stillness in the winter’s calm The lanterns dimly lit along Encounter silence overcast The winds die down at last The stars align up to your our souls As the seas start rise The clouds give way to the sun The overcast is comprised The cold wind forced me to take shelter Providing awhile where I could recover Pure as the driven snow falling from the sky The loneliness and secrets kept All the days from passing by The stillness in the winter’s calm The lanterns dimly lit along Encounter silence overcast The winds die down at last
6.
False Readings Another night to conclude the day Only to dream that I’m awake For this is no ordinary night I couldn’t shake off the fright The storyteller with a convincing imagination Has me believing with anticipation There are no correct answers to the facts It’s the way you tend to react There are too many false conclusions Just speculative illusion Hold that thought don’t think any further Your words might be monitored Science and knowledge have reached new heights Man does less and is losing sight I’ve seen the city from the other side I heard the sound of thunder The storm just in sight Where were you when the lights went out? It was disturbing then Where were you when we heard the shouts And the intruding sin Don’t turn around There’s nowhere to hide Don’t give away your position The laws will abide You are under the radar surveillance cameras on Suspense in motion You’ve done something wrong
7.
The Symposium of Great Failures Enter the Symposium of Great Failures On display are the losers who failed to convince The league of the defeated after many attempts Success held in contempt They are now further exempt The stolen ideas that they will never confess They claim it was work in own progress There are no trophies on the shelf There’s no one to blame but themselves Failure is a detour, not a dead end street If you fall 7 times you need to get on your feet In a competitive world where you win or lose There’ no sympathy for those you cannot even choose Even though they tried to make their mark They just didn’t have the spark To leave their place in history Fate had a sudden turn that they didn’t see The Symposium of Great Failures Through trial and error, they never learned from (their) mistakes And now on display where they miscalculate Through slips and blunders They seem to underestimate Some tried to imitate someone else they’d simulate Parting their hair on the side They changed their fashion to provide They made it to the hall of fame They should forever feel ashamed Pretending to be part of the scene We can see right through their own scheme The Symposium of Great Failures Through trial and error, they never learned from (their) mistakes And now on display where they miscalculate Through slips and blunders They seem to underestimate The Symposium of Great Failures Through trial and error, they never learned from (their) mistakes And now on display where they miscalculate Through slips and blunders They seem to underestimate
8.
Surrealities They say there is a doorway To places unseen Where you can only enter Through your dreams They say it’s filled with colors Surrounded by lights A sense of tranquilly With a feeling of delight Ever so strange and unlikely Nefarious of the times we exist Fictional novella stories A weak temptation to resist Look into the Kaleidoscope As the colors emerge Never knowing what you will see Unknown to observe Hearing echos of the past Of voices that we once knew A sensation overwhelming Staring down upon you They say our memories live on Throughout our lives They continue to exist You’ll never realize The clouds might cover the sun But they can’t darken our minds Stare into the solar eclipse Searching for what you’ll never find Ever so strange and unlikely Nefarious of the times we exist Fictional novella stories A weak temptation to resist There are surrealities that still occur There are similarities Of the unknown to observe Hearing echos of the past Of voices that we once knew A sensation, a realization Staring down upon you Enter into the caverns of time The dwellings of forgotten rhyme A recollection of lost emotion Has now returned Its devotion You must now follow the path That leads to the way out If go astray don’t forget to shout and never doubt Ever so strange and unlikely Nefarious of the times we exist Fictional novella stories A weak temptation to resist There are surrealities that still occur There are similarities Of the unknown to observe Hearing echos of the past Of voices that we once knew A sensation, a realization Staring down upon you
9.
The Extremities of Dreams I once thought I was immortal I would live throughout time I once thought I was invincible And the world was all mine I used to believe in the future I had everything all mapped out I followed the path of visions I never had any doubt I used to seek after my dreams The sacrifice was too extreme I have no faith in tomorrow It has slipped through the seams The extremities of my dreams Are so frightening A portal into a parallel universe Where we exist and cease (to exist) The extremities of my dreams An entrance to the other side There are visions that I have seen Where our souls will collide The things we once knew all along Have turned out to be wrong The world is upside down Everyone stares and frowns Trying to make sense out the past Knowing well that nothing ever lasts Where would I be in ten years Would I live in this fear The extremities of my dreams Are so frightening A portal into a parallel universe Where we exist and cease to exist The extremities of my dreams An entrance to the other side There are visions that I have seen Where our souls will collide

False Readings
Mark Murdock

'False Readings' Mark Murdock’s third solo prog-rock release which features Fernando Perdomo, whom Mark performed with in the ‘Out to Sea Band’ on the 2022 Cruise to the Edge. Also contributing on selected songs are recurring guests artists from the band ‘Nektar’ with Ron Howden, Derek ‘Mo’ Moore and Nektar newcomers, Ryche Chlanda and Kendall Scott.

Mark says, “False Readings comes after the release of two experimental titles in my Cymbalic Encounters catalog;
“Overexposure” and “Cerulean Cathedral.” There may be traces of these works on some elements of the music, as some of the material was composed near the same time frame, while offering some new dimensions to my works.
